INCIDENTS 2009

 

Jun 17th Called by W.Y.Police to search for a missing 25yr old male, last seen at home in Notton, 7km north of Barnsley. Mans body located by Police search team. Team then required to remove to roadhead by stretcher.

Jun 13 th Called to assist Glossop, Kinder and Oldham teams in search for a male in the Hyde area. Mans body was located by Woodhead search party and later removed to roadhead.

 

Jun 08th . Search dog Dodge, called to assist Calder and Holme Valley rescue teams search for a despondent 50 yr male. Found deceased by Police.

 

Jun 05 th . Search dog Dodge, called to assist Bolton, Oldham, Rossendale and Pendle MRT's in a search for 2 mispers in the same area 1 a Ten year old boy the other a 77 year old male. Both turned up safe and well

 

Jun 02 nd . Search dog Dodge, called to assist Glossop MRT in a search for a 30 year old despondent male stood down at 20:00 with nothing found Police enquiries ongoing.

 

June 01 st . Search dog Dodge, called to assist Edale MRT in a search for a despondent 68 year old male, located deceased by Search Dog Dodge and Wayne.

 

May 22 nd . Search dog Dodge, called to assist Oldham MRT in a search after shouts for help were heard by a Ranger and Police Officer, was located by members of Oldham MRT

 

May 17 th . Search dog Dodge, called to assist Edale MRT in a search for two females overdue on the Pennine Way, the well equipped pair made their own way off the hill, safe and well.

 

May 16 th Diverted from previous incident to search for a 60yr old male missing from a nursing home in Doncaster, searched all night with help from Derby team and 3 search dogs. Nothing located, found next day, outside the search area, in a front garden.

May 16 th Called to assist Edale and Buxton with a search for a missing male on the Eastern Edges.

 

May 4 th Search for 2 males who had reported themselves lost and exhausted in very poor visibility and heavy rain. Only information was they had left a car at Woodhead and were on a Land Rover track heading back to Bleaklow Stones. Car was located at Tunnel End off the Woodhead Road, search by Woodhead, Glossop and Edale teams plus 6 search dogs. They were located on the East side of Derwent Reservoir, 7miles from there car.

 

March 28 th Dog Dodge, handler and navigator, called to assist Swaledale MRT with ongoing search for missing 35yr old woman in York.

 

March 3 rd 60 yr old missing from home in Penistone. Police located his car in the car park at Winscar res. Woodhead and Holme Valley teams and 3 search dogs searched the surrounding area without locating him. Police divers located his body the next day in the reservoir.

 

Feb 22 nd Team came across an accident, just happened, on way back from training exercise. 2 cars collided at x-roads with 4 people injured, 2 taken to hospital in Barnsley by Yorkshire Ambulance. Stayed at scene to direct traffic until road could be cleared.

 

Feb 1st Fell runner coming down Mickleden Edge fell and injured his knee, team treated him on hill then carried him off to the road were S.Y.Ambulance took him to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. Where he was admitted for an Operation on his Knee.

 

Jan 24th 41yr old Male walker reported missing, car located Salters Brook. Police helicopter sighted walker in Black Clough's, search of clough's located walker with injured Knee and broken leg after falling 40ft down banking. Evacuated, after treatment, by RAF helicopter to Sheffields Northern General Hospital. Glossop MRT also called.

 

Jan 22nd Search dog unit called in early hours to assist Derby team with search at Cannock Chase for missing 32yr old despondent, located by search party from Derby Team.

 

Jan 20th Search dog unit called to continue search for man missing from previous day.

 

Jan 19th Search, in blizzard conditions, for a 61yr old male who had gone missing from home at Hepworth. Holme Valley MRT and 4 Search dogs also involved. Search proved negative. The mans body was found 2 days later away from our search area.

 

Jan 3rd Search dog unit called to assist Edale and Buxton with search of Kinder for 2 missing walkers. Stood down before being deployed.

 

Jan 2nd team called to rescue a sheep stuck on ledge, Fulstone Delph area.

 

Jan 1st 2 dogs called to assist Glossop team with search for a man and 2 children on Bleaklow. Located Alport.

 

INCIDENTS 2008

Jan 1st    Search dog called to assist Edale and Buxton teams with a search on Kinder for a party of five who were lost in misty conditions. Located by search dog Tyke, party member with abdominal pains was stretchered off.

Jan 29th Called at 23:00 to assist  South Yorkshire Police search for a missing, 49 year old male last seen earlier that afternoon.  Misper had recently undergone heart surgery. Mispers car was located at Tankersley golf course where he had a hobby of collecting golf balls from the undergrowth. Quick searches with police units and police dogs had failed to locate the misper. Two over passes with the police helicopter looking for heat sources in or near the stream failed to turn up results. All night search failed to locate misper, at first light Edale and Derby teams were called to assist and the mans body was found in dense undergrowth near were a search dog had indicated during the night.

Feb 3rd . Assisted fell runner on Mickleden Straddle fell race who had twisted his ankle whilst descending Cut Gate track back to Langsett

Feb 24 th . Called by South Yorkshire Police to search for a 42 yr old woman who was missing from home overnight. The women was a fell runner who had recently had a knee replacement operation. The team were tasked with searching woodland and waste ground around Dodworth. She was found semiconscious near the transpennine trail, after stabilising at the scene she was flown by Police helicopter to Barnsley General Hospital.

March 02nd  Trainee dog handler, whilst training in Hope Valley area, assisted Edale - Buxton snatch squad to evacuate a 68 yr old woman with severe facial injuries who had been blown over in strong winds near Mam Tor.

April 12th Called to assist Edale at Dale Dyke Res, where a 60 rd old woman had slipped on muddy path and injured her ankle, evacuated to road to waiting ambulance.

April 17th Search for a 70 yr old male who had not returned home after going for a walk, Whiston area south of Rotherham, Edale and 3 search dogs also involved, nothing found. The mans body was found 2 days later 20kms away.

May 24th SARDA dog unit called to assist Edale MRT in a search for 2 x 29 year old females, who had telephoned Police to report themselves lost and injured, on Kinder Scout. Located by members of Buxton MRT hypothermic and one with a broken ankle.

June 25th Called to Wharncliffe Woods were a 36 yr old male had fallen from his motor bike in a remote part of the woods, dislocating his knee cap, after treatment on site he was evacuated by stretcher then team vehicle to the road head and handed over to S.Y.Ambulance for transfer to Hospital.

July 19th Team members from all 7 Peak District teams called away from a crag training day at EMRT's base to a 14 year old girl who had collapsed below Hollins cross. She was treated by an EMAS paramedic and carried by stretcher to an ambulance.

July 20th 2 team members called away from Dog Training to assist EMRT with a fallen climber at Stanage who had fractured his femur.

July 26th Search dog Bryn and handler called to N.Wales to assist Police in a search

Aug 10th Trainee dog handler, after training session at Ribblehead, called by member of public to a man who had collapsed after having a suspected stroke, assisted by member of Upper Wharfedale Team stabalised him till he could be taken by ambulance to Lancaster Hospital .

Aug 17th Female walker with fractured leg and dislocated ankle to the west of Winscar Res. Due to location, team members were taken across the res by the sailing clubs rescue boats. She was treated by team paramedic and flown to hospital by RAF helicopter.

Aug 30th 22yr old male, taking part in NSPCC hack it walk, evacuated from Laddow Rocks area to Chew res with Knee injury, Oldham & Holme Valley in assistance.

 

Aug 30th One hour after the previous incident, a 48yrs old female competitor had to be carried off after being taken ill, also from near Laddow Rocks to Chew res, Oldham & Holme Valley in assistance

 

Aug 31st Team put on standby at HQ for a couple missing on Bleaklow, search dog deployed, couple located before team were deployed.

Oct 04th Whilst team were covering the Grin & Bear it walk, a runner notified the Featherbed checkpoint that a walker, not in competition, had fallen and injured his ankle. A team member went to check his condition and a party was sent to evacuate him to the road. He was taken by friends to hospital in Wigan for an X-ray.

Oct 28th Search dog Dodge called to assist Calder Valley search for a vulnerable pensioner, stood down when nothing located.

 

Oct 29th Search dog Dodge called to assist Edale with a search of the Burbage Valley after shouts for help were heard, nothing located.

Nov 10th Search dog Dodge called to assist Derby and Buxton search around Milldale for a missing woman.

 

Nov 16th Called to Wharncliffe to assist Ambulance service with a mountain biker with arm, shoulder and neck injuries after parting company with his machine.

Nov 17 th Edale, Glossop, Kinder and search dog teams, including search dog Dodge from Woodhead, called initially to search for a male on Kinder Scout in near zero visibility and strong rain & wind. As the search continued they were joined by both Buxton and Woodhead teams. The male was located by a Kinder team section near to Kinder Gates, after rewarming he was escorted off the hill by team members.

 

Nov 19 th Called by Yorkshire Ambulance to Yateholme along with Holme Valley Team and a section from Oldham to a woman who had broken her leg high up Ramsden Clough in old quarry workings.

Nov 20 th Asked to search area at Worsbrough Country Park for a 42yr old man missing from home, stood down after 2 hours. Found 2 days later wandering around the centre of Sheffield.

 

Nov 23 rd Search dog Dodge called to assist, Edale, Buxton and Kinder to search for a family of three on Kinder. They had been out walking from Hayfield and became disorientated due to darkness. Initially located by the Police helicopter before being located by Search Dog Ian and walked out to Edale village .

Nov 27 th Search dog Dodge called to assist, Buxton & Kinder at Alderley Edge for a distressed elderly male, nothing found stood down after 5 hours.

 

Nov 30 th 3 team members training with SARDA called to assist Edale at Curber Gap with a woman who had slipped and broken her ankle.

 

Nov 30 th Whilst packing up from previous incident called to Jaggers Clough Edale to assist with an injured mountain biker, carried short distance to air Ambulance

Dec 02 nd Dog unit called to assist Oldham with a search for a missing female at Tameside hospital, located by party from Oldham team.

 

Dec 06 th Dog unit called to assist Edale with a search for a despondent male in the Redmires area of Sheffield, nothing found. Police found woman 2 hours later.

 

Dec 7 th Whilst covering Marsden Edale fell race, competitor evacuated from Crowden Brook area with badly twisted ankle.

 

Dec 7 th Later on same race 2 female runners treated for lower leg injuries at Edale, 1 with severe bruising and lacerations to calf, 1 with more severe injury and was sent to Chesterfield Hospital for x-rays on damaged leg.

Dec 27 th Two dogs called to assist W.Y.Police search for a 48yr old male who had gone missing over Christmas, team vehicle also sent to act as control point. Red Doles lane area of Huddersfield, mans body located in canal.

Dec 30 th Search dog unit called to assist Edale with search for missing walker on southern side of Kinder.
