Incidents 2004

 

19 Jan     73 year old 'despondent' missing around Dovestones res, search by team Dog Unit, along     with 6 other search dogs from SARDA.

 

20 Jan     Continuation of search of previous evening with Woodhead, Oldham and Holme Valley       teams at first light. Mans body was located and recovered from a local reservoir.

 

12 Feb     Asked to assist N.Wales Police with search for missing 17 yr old girl, at weekend, girl located     and team stood down.

 

27 Feb     Dog unit called to assist Oldham team, stood down before being deployed.

 

27 March   Search for a missing 48 yr old male from Sheffield who had crashed his car on the Strines       road. A search of moor land near the road proved negative.

 

21 April     Search for 2 missing female mountain bikers, they left Fairholmes car park in the Derwent at     15-00 hrs to cycle around the reservoir area. Located at 02-00 on the watershed between the     Derwent and Woodhead valleys and airlifted off by RAF Helicopter with hypothermia and     exhaustion. Also involved Edale and SARDA teams.

 

25 April     Called to attend a crashed aircraft, along with RAF teams and 8 fire appliances, on the moor   near  Ringinlow, at the back of the Stanage edge's. Stood down on arrival when it was established that     this was not a modern crash site. The alarm had been raised by the Air Ambulance who saw a     crashed aircraft on the ground and people waving shortly after an aircraft had been reported to air  traffic having to make a crash landing in the area.

 

09 May Asked to assist a couple and their 3yr old daughter who got misplaced walking around the Langsett Reservoir  and had been located on the path near the top of Cut Gate.

01June. Attended a woman who had broken tib & fib. Penistone Stile footpath near top of Margery Hill. Helicopter not available so carried off to top of Derwent Valley with Edale and Buxton teams also involved.

 

4 July     Search, along with 3 SARDA dogs, for a 41 yr old female missing from home at Royston near     Barnsley, whilst on weekend leave from hospital. Searched woodland to West of village,       no trace found.

 

5 July     Continuation of search from previous day, moved location to search open ground, ponds and     canals to south of village. Located women alive and well but distressed.

 

8 July     Group of five teenagers missing! On a Duke of Edinburgh award walk, they had set out from     Fairholmes in the Derwent valley to walk to Langsett, the team was informed that they were     very wet and exhausted, were by a river but didn't know were they were. When the low cloud     lifted, the Police were able to get in with their Helicopter and lift the party off.

 

July     Dog unit asked to assist Kinder Team with search for a missing 12 old boy.

 

July     Team member dealt with incident in Lakes on Dow Crag where a lady had fallen onto her knee     and suffered severe lacerations, first aid was done and casualty comforted until helicopter arrived from RAF Valley to airlift her to hospital.

 

16 Aug     Called by police to search an area of woodland near Maltby for a man who had gone missing on  first day of release from hospital. Stood down before pager message went out.

 

21 Aug     Dog unit called to help West Yorkshire Police search for a missing farmer at Whitley Willows.

 

28 Aug     13 year old male fallen down banking into Far Black Clough landing in river with suspected     fractures to wrist and Femur, suffering from hypothermia and shock. Evacuated to waiting     ambulance and transferred to Stockport Hospital.

 

21 Oct     Missing walker on Bleaklow, rang Police to say he was in difficulties near the top of Bleaklow     Stones at 02-00. No trace in area indicated, full search of the area with three teams and search     dogs, located near Glossop next morning, distressed but unharmed.

 

25 Oct     Dogs called to search Kinder for a missing couple out walking, located safe and well.

 

20 Nov     Search for missing male on Bleaklow, located in Shining Clough above a frozen main waterfall     after following river down from plateau after getting lost on walk from Torside. Conditions were     well below freezing, and there turned out to be two walkers, unhurt but cold.

 

12 Dec     Search of Ramsden Clough and Snailsden area for man missing on walk from his home in     Holmbridge. Also involved Holme Valley, Oldham and Calder Valley search teams.  Nothing has been found or heard of him since.

 

31 Dec     Asked to search area of Ramsden Clough after gamekeeper found campsite, in area of negative search on 12 th , nothing found.
